He won’t go by anything other than Hancock, though
Series: Fallout 4
Age: Likely in his late thirties by the time he made himself into a ghoul. Aging kind of became irrelevant after that
From When?: Just after deciding to leave Goodneighbor. He is about to leave with the player character but the Admiral gets to him first.

Warden Justification: Hancock can be violent, has a very addictive personality, and carries a bout of self loathing to rival anyone’s, but he is, at his core, a genuine person. There is nothing about Hancock that implies any sort of duplicity. He is who he is on the outside and that is a person who cares about people, about every person, and who expresses and genuinely feels remorse when shit happens to them.

He’s fiercely protective of his people, and especially anyone he believes to be in need. He will give everything about himself to those who need a guardian or a helping hand, and doesn’t hesitate to use everything at his disposal, including violence, to get them what they need. He can be overly self sacrificing and take on far too much guilt for himself, but he doesn’t shirk responsibility in any form. Even though he was only a man at the time, he put himself and his reputation and his relationship with his brother on the line to try and save the displaced ghouls. When it didn’t work out, when they weren’t able to make it in Goodneighbor and eventually fell victim to starvation and wasteland violence, he blamed himself. He still blames himself for it.

His philosophy on power is one of absolute responsibility to the people, and he is very well aware of the corruption that power brings. Thanks to his brother, whose power grab for Mayor seemed to happen overnight and almost instantly corrupt him, Hancock is singularly focused on ensuring that he never feels “above” the people he serves. When he gets that way, when he starts to feel disconnected from them, he steps down from his major mayor duties to travel with the player character - the sole survivor. He connects again with where he came from and who he is.

Item: A Walktronic brand silver pocket watch.

Abilities/Powers: Hancock, despite appearances, is just a normal human with abilities he’s gained through practice. He’s good with guns, and he can fight with his fists. But none of these would exceed any other human’s abilities. He isn’t even particularly strong. However, being a ghoul has afforded him some perks. He doesn’t age as quickly (though it doesn’t really matter on the barge.) Gamma radiation actually heals him. He is immune to most diseases and can survive in very extreme conditions - like without the basic necessities of life - for long periods of time. While he does also boast a resistance to drugs, he simply chooses to take more to get the same effects. Side effects of being a ghoul is, well, losing parts of his body, of course, and the ever-present worry of “going feral.” While no one knows how it happens or when it could happen, it’s always something that’s in the back of people’s minds.

Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: Hancock would absolutely fail on someone with any substance abuse problems. That’s a struggle he has on his own, and he might not be able to help anyone through that. It was his own guilt and anguish that drove him to turn himself into drugs and eventually into the exceptionally rare and highly dangerous one that he knew would turn himself into a ghoul. But he needed that experience. He wanted it.

However, he is a natural born leader and is encouraging to anyone. He is exceptionally non-judgemental and does better when he can meet people where they are. Do they need encouragement? Great! Do they need a tight fist? He’s willing to try! Do they need a companion to simply be along on the ride with him? Perfect! He can do that and more. There are very few things that he takes issue with - mostly racism and unjust cruelty - but there is so little that fazes him. He’s a ghoul who runs a haven for gangs and drugs, but he has his rules.

‘Of the people, for the people’ is a motto that he takes very seriously. He doesn’t abide selfishness and would absolutely try and focus on that first and foremost. He understands how power works and power corrupts, and is happy enough to guide someone through it. Hancock refuses to let anyone lag behind and doesn’t tolerate people who don’t pull their weight. Everyone is useful, everyone has use, and he wants them to find it for themselves. Though he fights with himself about his own use and his own guilt, he takes issue with anyone else who might want to sway that way. He’s seen the destruction that it can cause and is fully prepared to lift people from it.

Hancock is highly intelligent and enjoys a bit of discourse sometimes. He can and will use that to talk through whatever his inmate needs, and he will spend as much time as he needs to get to understand where they come from. He did his research on John Hancock, as much as he could and was available to him, in order to adopt a bit of his philosophy into his life; he will absolutely do the same for any inmate he’s paired with. Understanding, he knows, is his biggest key to wardening.

He even tells the character: People respect me because I don't put myself above them, all right? I sling and shoot up just like the next guy. Hancock is exceptionally humble and fears the sort of corruption that he believed his brother to have fallen to. Of course, he doesn’t know that his brother was actually replaced by a synth with a directive, but he still takes it all to heart. He’s not going to let himself get overinflated with ego and is willing to admit his mistakes, especially with an inmate who might need that in their life.

Deal: Hancock doesn’t need anything for himself, but he would like to give the ghouls that were unable to make it in Goodneighbor a chance. He wants to create a space that they could have gone, a place where they would be able to live and thrive without the starvation that awaited them before.

History: History

Sample Network Entry: TDM thread

Sample RP: TDM thread

comments
