I know we're not exactly rolling in response options right now but your temp Lestat apparently just mind-controlled Shaw into trying to shank another warden.
You know much about him yet? Powers, outlook, that kind of thing?
[Gonou's silent for a long, long moment. He does like Hancock, is the thing: he thinks the man has good, kindhearted instincts. And yet.
Quietly:]
I can't help but think that no matter how terrible the experiences, no one has a greater right to decide what they will and won't remember than the person who had those experiences.
If she heard that it was something terrible, and chose not to have it back, that would be one thing. But if you didn't allow her to choose to have it back... to me, that seems like the worst kind of theft.
[His gaze flicks to the screen to meet Hancock's for a long moment, evaluative, and then he lets his chin sink a little, giving up his own confrontational pose.]
It may be that I'm worrying about it because there are memories I didn't have the chance to recover.
Mr. Hancock, I believe you were Lestat's warden before me, and immediately following the flood wherein he killed several people. Could I have a moment of your time?
I can certainly understand that, given the flood at hand.
But the other day, Lestat was confronted by Mr. Bright, Malcolm, who is the warden to Mr. Caffrey, Neal, who is one of his dearest friends on board. Mr. Bright has been exceptionally hostile in all communication and believes that Lestat considers Neal only a plaything, which I know for a fact he does not.
Lestat kept his peace until Mr. Bright patted him on the shoulder in a way in which he found patronizing, at which point he grabbed him by the throat. As per his vampiric nature, his fingers sprouted claws and in his haste at removing his hand and fleeing, cut Mr. Bright's throat rather deeply, more deeply than intended I believe given the cut and Lestat's telling of it. He has no inclination to hide things from me, after all, and little means to given the conduit I have allowed between us.
Mr. Bright was brought to the infirmary and stablized but he has called for punishment, to which I have currently requested a deferment given the lack of sanity going around at the moment. Miss Sameen Shaw, who has been stalking Lestat all this while and who has publically accused him at least once with no evidence whatsoever, has requested punishment, and Mr. Lark Tennant stated his intention to kill Lestat himself, which I of course took pains to prevent. I've also been contacted by a Mr. Raylan Givens, who expressed similar wishes to 'punish' him for this action, which I again deferred.
I have asked that there be a discussion had between myself, Lestat, and those with grievances to be had after this has ended. I will be asking Neal if he would care to join, as a neutral party, and I have the intention of asking one other but I thought to speak to you concerning what was done after his initial rash of murders and what, if anything, those now 'concerned' might have said.
I admit I find myself rather uncharitably against the idea of punishing a man for a situation in which he exercised restraint while unable to adequately consider the consequences of his actions through no fault of his own. And the mention of 'execution' and 'declawing' do not soften this feeling.
I locked his ass in Zero for a few days, until shit died down, and he went willingly. Then I was on him for the rest of the time, though that didn't stop him getting stabbed.
Which I never thanked you for taking care of, by the way.
I remember Neal was pleading for leniency and everyone else was telling him he was under Lestat's influence.
All part of my duties, sir, but thank you all the same.
If it gives you any satisfaction, I have confirmed with the Admiral that Mr. Caffrey has not been 'brainwashed' or otherwise put in the thrall of Lestat, so he told you truly.
That said, do you know the whole of the crimes he committed at that time?
I know of Mr. Silver's murder, Mr. Givens's murder, the embrace and turning of Mr. Caffrey, and some manner of harm done to Miss Shaw. Was there anything else?

Date: 2023-02-21 12:39 pm (UTC)I just got done talking to him. Arrogant sonovabitch, but he considers it just a matter of who he is.
[The biggest sigh.]

May I ask for your reasoning?

[Then, because Petronilla's defenders are few and he admires Gonou a bit for caring so much, he lets those walls down a bit.]
I was too much of a coward to see the look on her face when she relived it.
